Sci-fi Sanctuary

With so many great science fiction books and movies out there, it's only fitting to list some of the greats. These are stories I have thoroughly enjoyed and have left lasting impressions/influence on my writing. This is by no means an exhaustive list of the best sci-fi tales, just a few of my favorites.

  • John Carter of Mars series (especially the first 3) by Edgar Rice Burroughs
  • The Space Trilogy by CS Lewis (Out of the Silent Planet, Perelandra, That Hideous Strength)
  • The Stainless Steel Rat series by Harry Harrison
  • The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
  • Sphere by Michael Crichton
  • Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton

  • Star Wars Trilogy - otherwise known as the best sci-fi trilogy of all time (please don't even mention the prequels)
  • Alien and Aliens (I recommend not continuing this series after the first 2)
  • The Matrix (the first movie)
  • Guardians of the Galaxy
  • Iron Man
  • Edge of Tomorrow
  • Galaxy Quest
  • Men In Black
  • Blade Runner
  • The Terminator
  • ET
  • The Thing
  • Back to the Future (the first movie)
  • Star Trek II - The Wrath of Khan
  • Star Trek (2009)
  • Tron (the original)
  • Signs

I know what you're thinking.

"I can't believe he left out (fill in the blank)! It's the best (book/movie) of all time. How could he leave it off the list? He doesn't get sci-fi at all!"

Okay, okay, I know everyone's got their favorites and there's definitely other titles I thought about listing but since I didn't want the list to scroll down to the bottom of the internet, I kept it short. Feel free to drop me a line and let me know your favorites.
